10 reasons why Greyhounds make the ultimate pet
-
They are very affectionate
Who doesn’t love a cuddle buddy? Most greyhounds love human affection and attention, and they aren’t over the top about it, they’ll quietly follow you around the house or casually come up to you for pats when you’re sitting on the couch.
-
They do not need a lot of exercise
Most people believe that as ex-racers, greyhounds need a lot of exercise. Although they can run up to 72km/hr, they are actually quite a lazy dog. Most only need around 30-45 minutes of exercise daily, they are happy lounging around and napping all day.
-
They can also match your level of activity
If you have a more active lifestyle and enjoy hiking, biking and other sports, our adoption partners can match you to a more active greyhound to suit your individual needs.
-
They have great manners
Greyhounds are naturally reserved as a breed. They are quiet, clean and gentle. The pros of getting an retired greyhound is that most of their trainers will have already trained them to walk beautifully on a lead, to have a routine, and to go to the toilet outside.
-
They are great family dogs
Due to their sweet nature, greyhounds make a great companion for the whole family. They thrive particularly well in a home environment perhaps due to the fact that they are pack animals, and will soon become a member of the family.
-
They are low maintenance
Their short coats make them very easy to care for. Once they shed their kennel coat, shedding is minimal. A monthly brush and the occasional bath (around 3 times a year) should do them fine.
-
They are indoor dogs (great for apartment living)
Due to their short coats and minimal body fat, greyhounds live their lives indoors. In the colder months, just like you, they require a coat when going for walks, and pajamas for some in colder parts of the country! You can buy coats and pajamas from Caff 10 for Dogs, The Greyt Stuff Store and more.
-
Greyhounds are considered as one of the healthiest breeds
Due to their selective and careful breeding for the track, they have a much wider gene pool and have a lot less genetic problems than other purebreds. They also have a longer life expectancy than other larger breeds, with an average life expectancy of 10-14 years.on goes here
